REVEALED: The Most Active Unicorn Companies on Social [Header]

*Mic drop*

We did it.

We did something really big ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Here at DSMN8, we regularly conduct research.

Specifically, we conduct industry-specific research to determine which companies (and industries) have the most active employees on social media.

How?

We compile a list of companies in each industry.

Then, our data team pulls data to determine what % of their employees shared content to LinkedIn over a 30-day period.

We then rank them based on their score ๐Ÿ“Š

Why do we do this?

Because employee advocacy is our bread and butter! ๐Ÿž

And we not only want to build awareness around the impact employee advocacy can have, but we also want an opportunity to give kudos to companies whose employees are regularly creating and sharing content.

Now, we canโ€™t easily tell how much of whatโ€™s shared is company content.

So, itโ€™s not strictly clear-cut employee advocacy.

But, frankly, it doesnโ€™t matter ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Having a workforce with a strong social presence is a huge asset.

In a digital-first and post-pandemic worldโ€ฆ

Personal branding is more important than ever.

If your employees are visible and getting in front of your audiences.

Then YOU (the company) are too! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Our industry research is a great indicator for any organization looking to launch an employee advocacy program.

It tells them that they have a workforce that uses and sees the value of social media.

Often, companies reach out to us to say that they had no idea their employees were so active!

Sometimes itโ€™s the oppositeโ€ฆ

The organization sees the value, but its employees donโ€™t really have a social media presence ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Our research spotlights this and offers some tips on how to improve.

Itโ€™s a win-win!

This year, we had a question.

After looking at a number of tech unicorns.

We wondered:

โ€œIs there a link between employee advocacy and the success of these companies?โ€ ๐Ÿค”

So, we decided to go big!

We compiled a list of unicorn companies with 200+ employees on LinkedIn.

Any industry, any location.

We did the research and compiled the data.

Then ranked the companies to determine WHICH unicorns had the most active employees on social!

We even broke it down by geography to see how each region compares

The results tell an interesting story! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Anticipation gif

The highest-ranking company had a whopping 58.14% of their employees share to social over the course of 30-days.

The highest we have EVER seen ๐Ÿคฏ

(and weโ€™ve compiled the same data for 92 separate industries)

The average % of employees who shared across all companies was 18.65%

Not to sound like a broken record hereโ€ฆ

But that is also the highest we have EVER seen from any specific industry ๐Ÿ‘

At this stage, this comes as no surprise to us.

More and more companies are leveraging their employeesโ€™ influence on social.

In fact, Gartner predicts that by 2023โ€ฆ

90% of B2B brands will incorporate scaled employee advocacy programs into their marketing strategies ๐Ÿš€

When the pandemic came along, companies shifted their attention to social and digital.

More and more of them began to realize the untapped potential of their employeesโ€™ influence.

Collectively, employeesโ€™ networks are, on average, 10x the size of the companyโ€™s collective social following.

Plus, when an employee shares, theyโ€™re considered to be a more trustworthy and authentic source of information than the same message shared by the company page.

In fact, 76% of people say theyโ€™re more likely to trust content shared by โ€œnormal peopleโ€ over a brand.

As a result, content shared by employees has been found to receive 8x more engagement.

Employee advocacy has been a sleeping giant for years now.

The biggest, fastest-growing, and most successful organizations leverage their employeesโ€™ networks to build brand awareness and generate new business.
