I miss the days when Instagram was simple.
Square images.
No choice.
No stories.
I kid, of course, but there was less to remember!
From individual posts to stories and even ads.
Follow these guidelines to make sure your images always end up looking A+.
Profile Photo Size:
- 320 x 320 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio)
- Instagram profile photos are displayed at 110 x 100 pixels, but upload an image that’s at least 320 x 320 pixels as the image files are stored at this size.
Instagram image sizes for feed photos:
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
- Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels
- Supported aspect ratios: 1:1 (square), 4:5 (portrait), 1.91:1 (landscape)
Photo grid thumbnail size:
- 161 x 161 pixels (1:1 aspect ratio)
Instagram Stories & Reels sizes:
- 1080 x 1920 pixels
- Aspect ratio of 9:16
- Cover photo: 1080 x 1920 pixels
Carousel image sizes:
- Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels
- Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
- Aspect ratio: landscape (1.91:1), square (1:1), vertical (4:5)
Instagram ads sizes:
- Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels

- Minimum width: 320 pixels
- Maximum width: 1080 pixels
- Supported aspect ratios: Between 1.91:1 and 4:5
Instagram Stories ads:
- 1080 x 1920 pixels
X AKA Twitter
For a platform that was founded on all-text posting…
X/Twitter sure has a lot of image sizes to consider 😩
But it pays to know.
Fact: Tweets with visual content are three times more likely to get engagement.
Profile photos:
- Recommended image size: 400 x 400 pixels
- Minimum image size: 200 x 200 pixels
- Maximum file size: 4mb
Header photos:
- 1500 x 500 pixels
- Aspect ratio of 3:1
- Maximum file size: 5mb
In-feed photos:
- Minimum size: 600 x 335 pixels
- Landscape: 1600 x 600 pixels
- Square: 1200 x 1200 pixels
- Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
- Aspect ratios: Between 2:1 and 1:1 on desktop; 2:1, 3:4 and 16:9 on mobile
- Maximum file size: 5MB for images on mobile. Up to 15MB on desktop.
Image sizes for Twitter ads:
- Single and multi-image tweets: 600 x 335 pixels, but use larger images to ensure best results.
- Carousels: 800 x 800 pixels for 1:1 aspect ratio. 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio.
- Website card image: 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio. 800 x 800 for 1:1 aspect ratio.
- App card image: 800 x 800 pixels for 1:1 aspect ratio. 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio..
- Direct Message card: 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio.
- Conversation card: 800 x 418 pixels for 1.91:1 aspect ratio.
Twitter video sizes:
Twitter supports several aspect ratios for video, including:
- 16:9
- 4:3
- 1:1
However, the most common (and recommended) aspect ratio for Twitter video content is 16:9.
Maximum video size: 512mb.
Maximum video length: 2 mins 20 secs. Twitter Blue subscribers can upload videos up to 2 hours long, up to 8GB.
Profile photos:
- 170 x 170 pixels
- Facebook profile pictures will display as 170 x 170 pixels on desktop, and 128 x 128 pixels on smartphones.
Cover photos:
- Recommended: 851 x 315 pixels
- Display size on desktop: 820 x 312 pixels
- Display size on smartphones: 640 x 360 pixels
- Minimum size: 400 x 150 pixels
Facebook timeline image sizes:
- Recommended: 1200 x 630 pixels
- Minimum: 600 x 315 pixels

Facebook Stories image sizes:

Facebook Feed ads:
- Recommended size is 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Minimum size 600 x 600 pixels.

- Maximum file size of 30 MB.
Facebook Right Column ads:
- Recommended size is 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Minimum size 254 x 133 pixels.
- Ratio 1:1.
- These are a desktop-only ad format.
Instant Articles:
- Recommended 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Ratio 1.91:1 to 1:1.
- Maximum file size of 30 MB.
Facebook Marketplace ads:
- Recommended size is 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Ratio 1:1.
- Maximum file size of 30 MB.
Facebook Search:
- Recommended size is 1080 x 1080 pixels.
- Minimum size 600 x 600 pixels.
- Ratio 1.91:1 to 1:1.
- Maximum file size of 30 MB.

Messenger inbox ads:

LinkedIn’s algorithm can be the trickiest of the major social media giants to navigate.

- LinkedIn can handle photos up to 7680 x 4320 pixels (so go big!)

- Aspect ratio: 4:1

- Company logo: 300 x 300 pixels
- Page cover image: 1128 x 191 pixels
- Life tab main image: 1128 x 376 pixels
- Life tab custom modules images: 502 x 282 pixels
- Life tab company photos images: 900 x 600 pixels
Posting image updates to company pages:
- Recommended size: 1200 x 628 pixels
- Use an aspect ratio of 1.91:1
Blog post link images:
- Recommended size: 1200 x 627 pixels
- Following LinkedIn’s link preview update, these images will be turned into small thumbnails for organic posts, becoming larger previews when sponsored.
LinkedIn image sizes for ads:
- Company logo size: 100 x 100 pixels
- Spotlight ads logo size: 100 x 100 pixels
- Spotlight ads background image: 300 x 250 pixels

Snapchat
Oh, Snapchat, you beauty 😍
We love Snapchat because, generally speaking, it doesn’t change too much.
It’s not ideal to have limited options when it comes to sharing.
But it makes it a heck of a lot easier to get it right!
Snapchat ads image:
- Recommended size: 1080 x 1920 pixels
- Aspect ratio: 9:16
- Maximum file size: 5MB
- Same sizes apply to Geofilter images
TikTok
TikTok is a lot like Snapchat.
The app intends to utilize the full size of the phone screen.
So, whether it’s a video or an ad, sizes generally remain the same.
Profile photo:
- Recommended size is 20 x 20 pixels, but use a bigger and higher quality image for future-proofing.
TikTok video size:
- 1080 x 1920 pixels
- The ideal aspect ratio is 1:1 or 9:16
TikTok carousel image size:
You can upload images for TikTok carousels at aspect ratios 1:1, 4:5, or 9:16.
- Recommended size: 1080 x 1920 pixels
Image size for profile cover photo:
- Minimum recommended: 800 x 450 pixels
Image sizes for Pins:
- Aspect ratio: 2:3 (recommended)
- Square pins: 1000 x 1000 pixels
- Recommended size: 1000 x 1500 pixels. Vertical pins take up more space in-feed, and work best on Pinterest.
- Max file size: 20MB
Image sizes for collections Pins (products):
- Aspect ratio: 1:1 (recommended) or 2:3
- Recommended size: 1000 x 1000 pixels, or 1000 x 1500 pixels
- Max file size: 10MB
Image sizes for Story Pins:
- Aspect ratio: 9:16
- Recommended size: 1080 x 1920 pixels
- Max file size: 20mb
YouTube
Profile photo size:
- 800 x 800 pixels (recommended)
- Will be shown at 98 x 98 pixels
